why choose the music shed manchester?

When Dave and Dawn Luvin started The Music Shed almost five years ago, their vision was a simple one. To create a welcoming and diverse music school that offered exceptional quality learning and a thriving musical community, right in their hometown of Eccles. A place where learning can thrive, friendships can be made, and music can be played. That is exactly what they did. The Music Shed is a community of people of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds all with a common interest, music. If that is what you are looking for, contact The Music Shed today!

We pride ourselves on our exam results. Our teachers know and understand that students taking their grades want to get the very best results they can, and they give 100% to help them achieve that. We are incredibly proud of our 100% pass rate at our school.

Here at The Music Shed we understand that not everyone is the same and that some people’s needs can be very different. Our ethos is to offer quality music lessons to all ages and abilities. We have a number of students with individual special education and sensory needs. Our teachers work hard to individualise lessons to cater to our students. This involves getting to know our students, working out the best way for them to learn and teaching them at their own pace. We cater all learning to each individual student.

Our learning hub is a very welcoming environment. Not just for our students but their families too. We have a friendly waiting area for families and three learning studios for our lessons and band rehearsals. With free wi-fi and onsite parking, you can wait for your loved one in close proximity while they shred in one of our three learning studios and band rehearsal room!

our tutors say:

The Music Shed combines an ethos of excellent teaching with a passion for community. Students have the opportunity to perform locally and build their live experience whilst showcasing their talent and hard work. Our musicians thrive in growing their musical skills, yes, but so much more; they learn to work together,  to support each other and to trust their value as part of something bigger, a musical community.

FAQs

The earliest age to accept students is age 5.

The main criteria are that the child knows his/her alphabet and can sit still for 20 minutes (the additional ten minutes can be made into a fun musical game or mini-lesson on another instrument such as drums.)

It helps if you bring your own guitar. We do have access to guitars at the school but you will be more comfortable using your own instrument that you are more familiar with.

You should bring your Instrument to your lesson each week. We provide amps for electric guitar lessons, so there’s no need to bring that along too!

The only exceptions are with keyboard/piano and drums (you need to bring only drumsticks).

Our lessons are all taught onsite at our learning hub in Eccles. We have three learning studios all equipped for specific instruments.

Music is a science that can take a lifetime of learning! Learning the basic fundamentals can take on average three months. It is up to you how long you decide to continue learning.

At the start just bring along a notepad along (optional). Until you have decided this is right for you, it is best to start out simple! As time progresses you can invest in learning materials and other accessories that will enhance your learning of your chosen instrument.

If your schedule changes and you need to switch your weekly time, please speak to Dawn and she will discuss alternative available times with you. This may not always be with your current teacher.

Yes! We have band workshops both in the summer holidays and ongoing throughout the year. Our band put on two music festivals a year as well as the opportunity for our students to show off their skills in our Summer and Christmas whole school showcases!

Each winter we arrange a family-friendly nature walk at local nature reserves. These walks provide a great opportunity for our school families to mix and get to know each other and enjoy the local area.

We will be more than happy to inspect your instrument to see if it is suitable for instruction. (For your convenience, please do this before your lessons are scheduled.)

If you are waiting for your child at the school your teacher will give you a brief verbal update of what your child has worked on and what they need to do at home. At the end of each full term, our teachers provide us with a report of each child’s learning. This is sent out to each parent. We are always available to contact should you have any questions regarding your child’s progress.

Yes, you may take more than 30-minute lesson a week.

We need to know by the last day of the current calendar month.

We ask you to send this in writing to Dawn, either via Whatsapp or email.

Our lessons are £20 per 30 minute lesson.
